2012 ~ WATER DRAGON

The Water Dragon year is well upon us ~ Dragons are mythical and magical beings in general but this year with Water being the ruling element, we can count on more mystery than usual! In Asia the arrival of Dragon is awaited with great anticipation! Those of us who tune into Chinese Astrology for guidance can get excited. As I share my thoughts on the Water Dragon year, please know that what I write is based on my dedication and love of my craft. What I share is shaped also by my relentlessly positive attitude about life, my experiences with Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology, and a deep appreciation of Body Mind Spirit & Earth wisdom. I believe deeply that together we can accomplish the impossible and that no matter the influences of any given year we can change our destiny with strong intention! ~ Having said that, I try not to take myself too seriously so please read this with a healthy dose of fun and fascination! Enjoy!

2012 marks a year of ‘arrival & mystery’ for many of us. Being the official end of the Mayan Calendar we anticipate what exactly will happen next as we face these dynamic times on the planet. I have sensed over the last several years that there is a ‘quickening’; the feeling of a new life view starting in the midst of old systems and non functioning modalities. It shows in our personal lives and in the ongoing challenges reflected in the world around us thru environmental, social and political manifestations.

The Year 2012 has been looming, and now that we have arrived there is a deep sigh underlined by expectation. How appropriate that it be the deep and mysterious Dragon who guides the way.

The five transformations, most commonly known as the 5 Element Theory form the core of understanding all Asian Healing Arts; from Qi Gong, to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Feng Shui and Tai Chi. I will talk much about these elemental  relationships  so you can get a deeper sense of how they affect us on a day to day/year to year basis. The Elements Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood are a dynamic interactive system and the fact that WATER presents this year will have a significant bearing on what we will experience.

Take a moment to reflect on the many ways we experience water. It comes in the form of rain and snow, turns to ice and stream plus it condenses and evaporates. We see it as rushing rivers, stagnant ponds, deep powerful oceans and calm lakes. It creates floods, grows our food and replenishes our environment. As humans we are over 85% water and we create it easily in our saliva and our tears. Water is experienced on the planet in countless and ever changing forms. It translates as ‘shui’ in Mandarin Chinese and it forms the other half of the Feng Shui equation !  (Feng means ‘wind’; our comic breath of life) ~ Without water we simply would not survive.

If we really look at Water from all its many perspectives we may begin to grasp the dynamic energy of a Water Dragon. ~ We know it will be a pivotal year, so lets look at all the aspects of Dragons ~ its mystery, the history, and the how its placement within the elemental system shape some of what we will experience this year.

THE LAST DRAGON YEAR ~ 2000 ~ Year of the METAL DRAGON

Oddly enough, 12 yrs ago when the Metal Dragon ruled we were moved into another highly anticipated calendar year ~ the shift into the new Millennium in 2000. The YK2 predictions of disaster did not transpire although it was indeed a the start of a decade where we have seen a huge shift in planetary awareness. Environmental disasters have been more dramatic and frequent and the impact of Islamic fundamentalism on the globe is irreversible. We are witness to an ‘ever shrinking planet’ as social media and electronics has taken us into the ‘Brave New World’ of Mass communications. It too was a pivotal year in the planets history and we are experiencing something very similar 2012.

The Metal Dragons arrival in 2000 is similar in that there were ‘fear based’ beliefs of what may or may not happen. Many will face 2012 with a similar ‘fear’ but its my belief that Water influence will create a deeper understanding and the ability to experience a dynamic Compassion which if we choose to embrace it, will be the true gift of the Water Dragon year. Our choices mold our perceptions as we observe and or react. Where we sit with things will affect our responses. As ‘placement ‘ is the underlying energetic to Feng Shui understanding ~ it is imperative to know how and where to ‘place ourselves energetically’ in 2012. It will require trusting our gut instincts beyond anything else.

A PERSONAL REFLECTION ~

The METAL DRAGON year of 2000 marked my first year writing about the Chinese Animal Zodiac in the context of what it means from a Feng Shui practitioners perspective. I look back now at how I challenged myself to risk sharing my voice from a unique knowledge & perspective gained thru experience and study of the Asian Arts ~ To combine the basic principles of Feng Shui with the Chinese Animal Zodiac & Nine Star Ki Astrology has deepened my appreciation over these past 12 years as I cycled fully thru the Zodiac. It has heightened my ability to assist people whether that be as a teacher, an astrologer, a Feng Shui designer or in an energy clearing role. And in doing so I want to thank all of you who read this and trust my work as I am privileged and honored to have contributed to your understanding and process in any way.

THE DRAGON PERSONALITY~

Dragons in general are dynamic, outgoing, and courageous. The fact that they are not an earth animal gives Dragons a mystical essence and translates to human Dragon born as well. This essence shows up as people who are naturally innovative, enterprising, flexible, and self assured. They are passionate, helpful and successful when at their best. The downside of Dragon born is they can lack tact, they can be conceited, often over scrutinizing, opinionated, and aggressive. All combined these traits can make them challenging to be friends with unless we are able to appreciate and compliment their energy. As with all of us, finding a balance for Dragons is their life long goal.

Dragons live life big. They are the free spirits of the Chinese Zodiac and conformity & restriction is detrimental to their spirits. Dragons have an incredible creative force that cannot be impeded by limitations. As the flamboyant, beautiful creature it is, it requires freedom to exercise its gifts; which are often exhibited in grand gestures and extreme ambition. The confidence he or she exudes makes them naturally successful in what they set out to do. These qualities make them showy and noticeable but this is not the intention of most Dragon born; it just goes with the territory. They are very aware of their outgoing natures and are usually careful not to exceed limits because can drain the very essence of who they are.

Dragons make excellent friends and are fast to assist you in any way possible although oddly reluctant to accept help from others. This can be due to pride or to his solitary nature and self sufficient attitude. Either way he is a lone being and although he attracts friends easily due to his outgoing and generous nature, he loves his quite time. His tendency is to limit forming deep bonds with others. However when he forges those bonds with another, they will last a life time.

Dragons are blessed with good health and a strong constitution. It matches their energy and bodes them well as high achievers. As with anyone, when you overdo it, you will wear out!  Dragons have to be reminded that they do not have to do it all alone, help is always available when we are humble enough to ask!

HOW DRAGONS DIFFER ~ THE ELEMENTAL FACTOR

The elements Fire, Earth, Metal, Water & Wood form the basis of understanding how energy interacts on the planet. Known as the FIVE TRANSFORMATIONS  these elements & their combination’s assign specific characteristics to the particular animal ruling in any given year. The Water Dragon Year will be very different from a Metal Dragon year. Each Dragon will be different from each other and if you are a Dragon you will experience the year as per the elemental influences.

DRAGON YEARS and ELEMENTS

•       23 January 1928 – 9 February 1929: Earth Dragon

•       8 February 1940 – 26 January 1941 :Metal Dragon

•       27 January 1952 – 13 February 1953: Water Dragon*

•       13 February 1964 – 1 February 1965: Wood Dragon

•       31 January 1976 – 17 February 1977: Fire Dragon

•       17 February 1988 – 5 February 1989: Earth Dragon

•       5 February 2000 – 23 January 2001: Metal Dragon

•      23 January 2012 – 9 February 2013: Water Dragon*

•     10 February 2024 – 28 January 2025: Wood Dragon

Fire Dragons are the most dramatic of the lot as Fire has a mythical association with Dragon energy. These Dragons are the ones who take a stance on what they believe in and are the best ones to have on your side in an argument, debate or on a project. They are most helpful in fighting for a cause whether its yours or another’s! On the down side their emotions can flare up easily and they tend to be more reckless than other dragons. On the upside they are fun loving, generous and the life of a party!

Earth Dragons are also slower moving, methodical types possessing a rooted sense of commitment to people and projects. Earth Dragons make informed decisions and they give attention to details.  They also need to be appreciated in order to flourish. Earth Dragons are loyal but also stubborn in their approach and may hold on to things longer than necessary. The Earth element gives them a very strong constitution and they will outlast anyone when it comes to getting the job done.

Metal Dragons are a force to content with. Independent and determined they are the highest achievers and the ones most in control. Metal Dragons enjoy both challenges and those with the bravado to confront them. These Dragons are at risk of burning out young in life if they do not learn to go with the flow instead of pushing their addenda. The are often successful and will achieve great things in life. They do mellow with age.

Water Dragons are more methodical ~ they are deep thinkers and although they are deeply passionate about many things it may not show. They take more time with decision making than other dragons but once committed their endurance is unwavering. They take into consideration those around them and they do not need to be always right. If they take the wrong path it will take them awhile to get back on track. Water makes them deeply compassionate and less likely to judge than other dragons.

Wood Dragons are the most spontaneous, dominant and innovative of the lot. They are the most obvious in their addenda and work hard to get things rolling at an early age. Their dynamic actions inspire others as they do not control situations but bring others energies together to create synergy. If they make mistakes it comes across like a runaway train. Their gift is ultimate creativity and the ability to show others to reach for their dreams!

WATER DRAGON AND ITS INFLUENCE ON 2012 ~

I am thrilled and relieved that 2012 is the Year of the WATER DRAGON. As we associate dragons primarily with FIRE we can appreciate that a Water Dragon will be calmer in nature and his influence, although dramatic, will be more reassuring. The water element allows the Dragon to exercise ‘calm’ amidst a fearless temperament. He/she is way more perceptive of others needs and can accommodate those needs into the equation without feeling usurped. Water Dragons do not ever doubt their power. Where other dragons may act first and think later a Water Dragon will consider the affect of his actions on others prior to carrying out his deeds. It may not stop him in his overall plan but he will take responsibility for his actions and make things right if necessary. A Water Dragon is a patient Dragon and because of this he tends to make smarter choices. Under his rule we can learn to channel his ‘qualities’ into our life goals if we take time to Understanding the Dragon personality.  That way we can take the best and leave the rest.

The first lesson to learn from Dragon born is to make sure that any new venture, especially in business is well researched. Dragons  tendency to go for it without doing his due diligence. If unprepared this year you risk loosing it all especially if you have many projects on the go. Its typical of the Dragon to have too much on his plate, so if you do be careful and diligent in following through.

The Water Dragons attitude takes in the big picture and he can set aside his ego more easily than other Dragons with his peaceful disposition. Diplomacy goes a long way in affecting change. His progressive and patient attitude allows the Water Dragon to making things better in the world. His power and influence is more peaceful and deeply intelligent and as such he attracts the right supporters for his causes.

In 2012 watch how this  may bode well for environmental issues. Under Water Dragons rule we may observe strides being made in areas having to do with ocean clean up and preservation of wet lands and animals affected in those areas. Green technologies, and energy conservation may take hold in larger corporations thus setting a trend. More attention may be paid to world hunger and movements that are proactive in solving basic human challenges.

What is out of our influence on a global scale are natural disasters. In a Water Dragon year we may see more in the way of hurricanes, tsunamis, & monsoons affecting the planet as well as earthquakes. Should major disasters occur in a Water Dragon year there we should see a significant humanitarian response globally.

The Water element is associated symbolically in Feng Shui with emotions, abundance and vital life force or Chi. These more subversive qualities create Dragons with a strong emotional awareness to all energies surrounding them. The Water Dragons ability to take things in and be more reflective contributes to his overall strength and magnanimous caring qualities. This should allow us to  feel more compassion for ourselves and for each other when enviable challenges arise.

The key to the Eastern perspective of water being ‘life force energy’ thus related to abundance is why in the East they believe that 2012 will be a very fruitful year. Dragons are the bearers of the 5 Blessings; harmony, virtue, fulfillment, longevity and riches. In a Water Dragon year we can expect these blessings to be magnified. A Water Dragon tends to take the time thus he makes better decisions. This should translate into more success and accumulation of wealth. However for most of us it is not a time to speculate, only to move forward with well thought out plans. Taking risks with our earnings should be a well informed venture.

When it comes to how we ‘spend’ our life force energy, we should not waste time on things that do not make us happy, healthy or vibrant. A good example is how we exercise ~ although we know it’s a good way to expend energy for positive gain overdoing it can lead to injury and lethargy. Taking care in a Water Dragon years translates to supporting good emotional as well as physical health so we can use our energy in more focused ways ~ ‘working smart ~ not hard’ is a powerful mantra for 2012.

THE ELEMENTS AS KEY TO READING THE YEAR ~

The five transformation or 5 element theory is key to understanding how energy shifts and changes all around us. Unlike the 4 elements referred to in the West ~ Fire, Water, Earth and Air, the Asian study integrates AIR equally between the elements Metal and Wood . Earth takes up a center position as the other four elements take up the four directions with WOOD in the East, FIRE in the South, METAL in the West and WATER in the North. As we live on the EARTH, it takes its  place in the center, holding and connecting the other four.

As I continue please know that the simple explanation of the 5 transformations  is in actuality a complex system that takes many years to master. This diagram shows a visual of their inter relationship with a brief explanation following.

THE BASICS OF THE FIVE TRANSFORMATIONS ~
As in all Asian disciplines and Eastern philosophy, Chi or Energy flow defines our vital life force. Yin (feminine) and Yang (masculine) are the polar influences that affect the flow of chi or energy. Simply put, Yin is inner, dark and mysterious: Yang is outer, light and visible. Yin moves towards Yang as Yang moves towards Yin. At the root of this interaction is the relationship between the 5 Transformations’ or the ‘Five Elements’ Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire.

In the West we refer to 4 elements ~ Earth, Water, Fire and Air. In Eastern philosophy Air is transposed onto both Metal and Wood equally. The combination shown above illustrate both a ‘harmonious cycle’ and a ‘controlling cycle’ that when balanced allows the flow of energy to be most beneficial.

THE HARMONIOUS CYCLE ~ (the outer circle in the diagram)

FIRE feeds EARTH which feeds METAL which feeds WATER which feeds WOOD which in turn feeds FIRE. Each element in this cycle is said to be the ‘parent’ of the next.

THE CONTROLLING CYCLE ~ (the inner star shape within the diagram)

FIRE melts METAL which cuts WOOD, which displaces *EARTH, which controls WATER which extinguishes FIRE.  Each element in this cycle is said to be the ‘grandparent’ or spoiler of the child.

This vital inter relationship of ‘harmony and control’ creates a set of circumstances that come into play when we put the yearly animal with the ‘annual element’. This year the element is WATER paired with the ‘yearly animal’, the Dragon.

Besides an annual element each animal also has a ‘base element’ which is dictated by its placement on the compass and is the core element of that animal. As we move through the 12 Chinese animals of the zodiac we also move through each of the 5 elements. Therefore  it takes 60 years to ‘return’ to the year of our birth. The element of the year we are born often has more of a profound affect on our personalities than the base element of the Animal.

When we combine animal and element we can get an overall flavor of what a year will be like. We take the Base Element of the Animal of the year and put the annual element on top saying for example it is a WOOD over WATER year, as it is in 2012. Last year with it being a Metal year , with an Rabbit as the yearly animal whose base element is WOOD , 2010 was a METAL over WOOD year. The combination can not only tell us about the dynamics of the year but it may shed light on how we respond.

The Chinese Zodiac is a wheel and a compass. Dragon is in the ESE point on the compass, its season is late Spring-and its month April. It is associated with ARIES in Western astrology.  As spring is associated with the Wood element we know that Wood is the Base element for Dragon. Not all Dragons are Wood, but they all exhibit various Wood characteristics. (*see chart above to determine your annual element if you are  Dragon born). If you are born in a WOOD year, and Wood is the base element of your animal, then you are referred to as a ‘double Wood person. This follows through for any animal born with an element that is the same as the base element for their particular animal.

This year there is a complexity involved with this formula ~ that is the addition of the EARTH element into the mix. When working with more complex systems of astrology we always look at the lunar or seasonal elements. Due to the fact that there are only 4 seasons and 5 elements, we say that SPRING is Wood ~ SUMMER is FIRE ~ FALL is METAL and WINTER is Water. EARTH then falls into the last 20 days of each season.

The Dragon falls into that 20 day ‘lunar placement’ due to its location on the compass. For this year we have to recognize the Earth influence as more ‘subversive’ yet  important in the overall scheme of things. When we look at Water being a main influence globally in terms of impending disasters we think of tsunamis, hurricanes, floods etc. If we consider the underlying aspect of the Earth creating disturbances, then we can expect volcanoes  or earthquakes.

WOOD, WATER WITH UNDERLYING EARTH ~ WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR 2012

This year the elements presenting are WATER and WOOD, which are two elements that are harmonious together. If we look back at the diagram above we can see that the Water is the parent of Wood (Wood needs Water to grow).  It is believed that 2012 ends many years of conflicting elements ( for example: last year was METAL over Wood ~ Metal Rabbit year/base element Wood ~ as Metal cuts wood and this is seen as destructive / controlling). Having had destructive cycles and conflict of elements over a succession of years creates challenging times for the most part unless  our own personal elements line up with on or the other elements ruling that year.

With  Water and Wood in harmony we should experience more ease in general; with Water feeding the Wood element there is a natural flow to events. 2012 is referred to as a Yang Water year ( water is typically Yin but with Wood as the ruling element it becomes  Yang ‘water’). Water will be more dynamic; moving faster with intensity that we will feel in most areas of life ~ especially with emotional energy.  Yang Water means no stagnant streams, or slow like molassas flow ~ the metaphor is more like a fast moving river in spring runoff and or the powerful and mighty ocean as in a storm. Yang water and Yang wood although in harmony will be unstoppable in this combination. That equates to dynamic and unexpected change, not necessarily bad, but perhaps overwhelming.

If we factor in EARTH as the subversive influence this year, we can expect the possibility of disruptions as Earth has dominance over Water. Hidden blockages to stop Waters natural flow if Earth starts to dominate. This could affect Woods ability to grow and flourish. To Balance out the whole system ( 5elements ) the introduction of METAL into the equation as it will mitigate any influence that Earth will have over Water. My intuition tells me that METAL will be ever present due it being represented in electronic equipment and its actual ability to conduct energy. Communication is synonymous with the Metal element, as Metal is a ‘conductor of electricity’ and symbolically ‘information’. Judging by the increase in social networking via computers and cell phones and how its shaping our current reality I sense that ‘Metals influence’ is sufficient to keep the EARTH from controlling WATER ,  allowing the Water to Feed Wood, thus keeping this years Dragon free and in the flow for 2012.

2012 has been anticipated with emphasis put on the ending of the Mayan Calendar. The actual date of the Mayan Calendar predictions is late in the year (Dec 2012).  We will have to watch closely what happens on a planetary scale during the year overall as with the strong Water influence we may get swept away with any matter of internal or external shifts. I choose personally to be optimistic and proactive in my approach to this pivotal year. We are what we attract, and to focus energy on working with the Water Dragons better traits will create the best outcome. Hold this Water Dragons capacity for compassion so that when challenged we can get the lesson with grace and acceptance and not holding on. Something tells me with this Water influence, its will be harder to ‘hold on than to let go’ in 2012.  Its good to remember that  INTENTION is a huge step in forging a positive reality and outcome for the planet this year and for our childrens children in the future.

THE WORLD IN 1952 ~ THE LAST WATER DRAGON YEAR ~

Looking at events of the last Water Dragon year is always a fun way to explore the past in order to observe the future. Many interesting things happened in 1952 that still have an impact on the world today. Dragon years are called the opening to ‘heavens gate’, and in Water Dragon years we look for aspects of the Water element to show in historical events.

In 1952 there were two major earth quakes; one of the largest ever recorded  California took place in ’52  with the other in the USSR. The latter caused a tsunami that was felt in the Pacific as far away as Hawaii. There were many sea related disasters such as the sinking of ships and ferries also in ’52 . 2012 has seen the repeat of this type of disaster with the cruise ship going down off the  Greek coast early in this Water Dragon year.

Other outstanding events of 2012 ~

-  Queen Elizabeth came to the thrown of England after the death of her father~ she is still ruling strong!

-  the Mau Mau rebellion started in Kenya and & continued until 1956, with Kenya finally winning its independence   from England in 1962.

-   Agatha Kristie’s play ‘The Mousetrap’ began and is still running today

-   The Term SMOG was coined in London when a combination of pollutants in the air and unusual weather conditions created a low lying dirt fog that eventually claimed 4000 lives in Dec ’52

-   Mother Teresa opened her home for the dying and disabled in Calcutta

-  Over 3000 people were lost to Polio in the USA leading to the polio vaccines use and subsiding of this desiese on a major scale thereafter

-  Albert Einstein was offered but refused to become president of Israel

-  The BIG BANG theory of creation was first propounded

-  Nelson Mandela was arrested in South Africa

-  India held its first general elections

-  The Atomic  bomb was first tested in Nevada following with  Britain announcing that is had Atomic weapons

-  Charlie Chaplin is refused reentry into the USA after being a resident of LA for 20 years

Although these events are seemingly unrelated they have made an impact on our present world in significant ways. Communism was still a threat in ’52 and the cold war created ripples throughout America when ‘Hollywood ‘ celebrities were being targeted. This created a more deeply rooted fear in North Americans especially with Atomic weapons were seen as a solution and those decisions have an impact on our society and environment to this day.

History’s influence is palatable, so as we step into 2012 we can watch with more care perhaps the decisions made from the grass roots movements to major governments. If we remember the words of the HOPI prayer, ‘we are the ones we have been waiting for’ the 99 % does have a voice in the outcome of world events. Perhaps it will be the Water Dragon year that will make a difference!

DRAGON MYTHOLOGY ~

The mythology of the yearly animal provides insights into the undertones of what we may experience throughout the year or the hidden physic  of the animal itself. The Dragon provides us with a richly textured mythology that varies throughout the world. As I mentioned earlier the Western and Eastern Dragons are very polarized in what they portray.~

As a Feng Shui consultant I have discovered that the Dragon of the Eastern perspective is the quintessential « Feng Shui» animal.  Feng means ‘Wind’ and is the breath of the Dragon ~ Shui means ‘Water’ and  is what Dragon is here to protect.  It is a key animal in the 5 Transformations of Feng Shui landscape representing the Yang principle and the Wood transformation of Spring!

Going back to the origins of all Feng Shui knowledge, deep in the valley of the Dakini’s and the location of the temples of the Tara’s in Northern India, we find much in the reference to Dragons and the Nagas! The word Naga as translated in Buddhist scripture is Lu or lung which means Dragon. Nagas are the protectorates of Water and thus Dragon is associated with being a benefactor to the essence of Life; the healing, life giving waters.

This is the core of why Dragons symbolize fertility, abundance, good luck and knowledge in Asian mythology and belief.

In China there are many tales about Emperors born with Dragon shaped birthmarks and many types of Dragons that act as protectorate of various forces of nature and the heavens. Dragons appear on Royal robes and in many temples as protectorates and symbols of influence and good blessings.

The Chinese have 4 categories for Dragons; there are Celestial Guardians, Weather Makers, Earth Dragons and the Treasure Keepers.

In Japan there is  a myth that Dragons can transform themselves into humans and mate with royalty. It is said that the Japanese Emperor Hirohito claimed to be a descendant of the Princess FRUITFUL JEWEL , the daughter of a sea Dragon King!

The Tibetans believe that the Turquoise Dragon is a protectorate against discord of all sorts but especially the misuse of words, the spreading of gossip and slander.

If you are familiar with Star constellations you may have heard of DRACO. Thuban is the mid star in the constellation Draco ( draco~ dragon) and had acted as the NORTH Star prior to 1800 BC when POLARIS took up the position. Thuban ad Draco were pivotal in the siting of the Angor Wat in Cambodia and  the Pyramid at Gizza in Egypt, where passesages provided ‘channels of light ‘ for Thuban, which is the brightest star in the Draco formation.

The roots of the Western Dragon go back to the Greek myths and carried on to become the ‘symbol ‘ that was taken into war by Greek armies. As the Greeks and Romans made their way through out eastern and western Europe the symbol became popular in that is ‘calls in’ the mysterious powers of Dragon again as a ‘Protectorate’ for soldiers ~ thus its place on Banners as armies walked into war. I believe that when Dragon became associated with ‘war and killing’ the Western view of it being a feared and dreaded symbol was born.

I also believe that even in the Asian version the dragons ‘feared qualities’ were as much a part of the dragon myth and is the hidden aspect of Dragon that makes it strong. The story of Buddha being protected by a many headed ‘Naga’ not withstanding. In Feng Shui and Asian studies we recognize that the ‘negative’ qualities are as much a part of the whole as the positive~ its how we can integrate the two so the positive is always presenting and being the main influence.

If you care to look there are endless tales, myths and stories of Dragons and its power and mysticism, much more than I can relate to you here. The thing that I feel significant is to acknowledge Dragons strength and influence. I invite my readers to ‘step outside the box’ in your understanding the forces at hand in a Dragon year and how you can use this to your benefit and self growth.

Finally in ‘grounding’ Dragon mythology there is actually an two earth species which we can draw our attention. For those of you who are more pragmatic and practical about such things the Indonesian Komoto Dragon should fit the bill. This large land prowling carnivore is actually more like a ‘land crocodile’ but in spite of its name avoids humans and sticks to eating carrion. The other is the Dinosaur which is reality more true to what a ‘earth Dragon’ would have been. Even though extinct, animals such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Pterodactyl (a type of flying dinosaur) conjure up the feared Western Dragon metaphor.

I will leave you to muse about the Mystery of Dragon and its impact on the events of 2012 as they unfold. You can now scroll down to the Predictions at the end or you can read about the Flying Star Feng Shui (directly after Talisman photos )  for 2012 which indicates the problem areas this year from a directional or Flying Star perspective. For those of you who  are familiar with this aspect of Feng Shui it may have relevance. For others it may totally be too much to take in; remember Feng Shui Study is a many layered onion, and we can only do one layer at a time.

I wish you many blessings for 2012, and please check my workshop page for my classes and courses in Calgary in mid APRIL and for other offerings  Victoria in late APRIL/ early MAY. For Nelson residents I will be in the Nelson area in mid  MAY and will offer Spiritual Dowsing classes as well as Activated Garden classes into June.

2012 Water Dragon Talisman ~ approximately actual scale

Each year I create a good luck talisman for the animal of the year. Based on the information of the ‘Flying Star Feng Shui’ I interpret the best area to hang this symbol; warding off in auspicious energies present in a specific direction, replacing it with activated & auspicious energies for you specifically. I have used the template of my activation pieces in that I am using semi precious stone with FLUORITE , a stone that amplifies the energy of the stones around them. Fluorite has many ‘grounding qualities’ and is known to increase mental clarity.

The Dragon Design is of my own creation.

The Talisman above was crafted upon the request for a friend/client. The semi-precious stones we chosen then fluorite and decorative beads added.  On the reverse I wrote her name, elemental information, and her intentions for the year.

The fluorite stones were ‘activated ‘ during a ceremony on January 23rd, 2012 ~ Chinese New Years day heralding the WATER DRAGON Year. A dedicated group of individuals, including a ‘Water Dragon’ assisted in the process. These stones were prayed over as they sat in snow water of the mountains and then activated with a special technique taught to me by Master JES LIM of QI MAG International. My Feng Shui/Gemomancy Master.

I usually craft 60 talisman and pass them out at my presentations and send them to clients, students and friends that request them. Due to a broken wrist I am only crafting a few at a time and also taking personal orders for the Water Dragons.
Over the years these have evolved and I stared crafting these talisman in the year of the Snake. This year brings me around to the 12th year ~ with 12 talismans to my collection.

Each piece takes over an hour to craft and I accept donations for their crafting.

I have had to work with a broken wrist this year and so the predictions below were posted first! Now that I have all the information up and running I invite comment and discussion! I will however return to where I spent the first weeks of the Metal Dragon of  2000; to the jungles of Costa RIca, therefore I may not respond until my return in
April 2012  ~

FLYING STAR & FENG SHUI CURES

The study of ‘Flying Star Feng Shui’ is the most profound & intricate level a practitioner reaches after mastering many other aspects of Feng Shui. Thus the absolute luck of a house or business is determined by an advanced practitioner based on what the compass directions and Flying Star ‘Period’ of a home or office are in combination with the occupants personal ‘Star & elemental ” information.

Every year practitioners of Feng Shui take note of the FLYING STARS and their placement in homes and businesses. The grid below shows you where the flying stars are located this year with the #6 being in the center. We refer to these separate areas as ‘Guas’ in Feng Shui practice as ‘Houses’ in the Nine Star Ki Astrology practice.

This is the ‘placement arrangement’ for the Flying Stars for the year 2012

The Flying Stars change every day, every month, every year and every 20-year cycle. This information is for the Yearly Flying Star for 2012. Each year the stars fly into different ‘houses’ which in effect are actual compass directions as illustrated above. We work with the energies and elements of the house & directions and try to ‘balance’ opposing elements by using this advanced system. Much of what is done in Feng Shui is based on very practical applications of elements and planetary rhythms, yet the Flying Stars takes a bit of know how to master.

Rather than go to great lengths to explain the significance of each area of the Bagua, I would ask that you contact me directly if you are interested in pursuing the ‘corrections ‘ of the flying star influences this year. As is it is of a deeper level than most want or need to know, its best that I do not confuse you with a detailed explanation. Just know that the GRAND DUKE JUPITER is in the SW this year and that it is inadvisable to ‘move earth’ in this location. This alludes to ‘not’ starting renovations in this compass area of your home or to not have your back facing SSE this year. As the opposite to the SW is the NW you should not do construction in this area of  your home either. Should you need to start any new construction you would be wise to do a specific Feng Shui ceremony to mitigate the influences and bring good luck to the project.

Its good to place a Dragon Talisman in the SW and a money frog in the NW to activate luck. Any other Cures or remedies are complex and you would have to be a more advanced student of Feng Shui to know and understand the rationale behind applying them! WATER DRAGON PREDICTIONS

DRAGONS in the Asian context are symbolic of LUCK, PROSPERITY, FERTILITY and EXPANSION, so no matter your sign, there is luck to be had and made all round. The Element of your year has much to do with what level of that luck you can manifest or will experience. You can check this by ‘googling’ to your specific year for the element of the year you were born.

How all the animals fare in the WATER DRAGON  year :

Rats: 1900, 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, & 2008

Rats can get back to business this year! Dragons are in in your auspicious triad and it means you can harness the energy of Water to create or recreate a solid foundation. This will require some bold movements on your part, as you will have to set strong intentions and move decisively on them. Your efforts will pay off in both your career and romantic life ~ just remember its not a time to take the back seat, you must be the solo driver this year and at the same time look for new ways to partner energies towards long term goals. It will seem that even with effort your achievements may just make your expectations. Key to this year is to spread out your contacts, take courses and create a good social networking base. This will all pay off, but like so many things, its not instant gratification. There is an emphasis on health, physical fitness and becoming strong in all aspects of your being. Love relationships flourish this year and long term relationships will strengthen. If you are a solo Rat this is a good year to find the ‘one’. Opportunities will present themselves in all areas of your life as the Dragon is a fortuitous adviser and ally; go with waters flow and let small things slide. Watch what gets your back up and address issues privately. Keep your eye on the horizon as it will be a very progressive year for you.

Oxen : 1901, 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997 & 2009

This will be a slower year for ox born especially if it was an active and busy year for you last year. This is not a year to take risks with your finances. Dragon is not a huge friend of the Ox born and you are best to keep under the radar so no speculations! As for career try to keep a steady course, status quo here as well~ don’t ignore opportunities to advance but do not upset the apple cart with unrealistic expectations. Your health will remain good but again keeping fit and having a steady routine is a must for the Ox in Dragon years, otherwise you may see problems with your liver chi. If in a relationship keep an even keel there as well; if you are a woman do not push your partner, he simply is not ready. Enjoy what you have and be in the moment with love and compassion. If single don’t try too hard as its the best is to wait and see. When we have no expectations we are often lead to the best liasons. Overall it’s a steady year, steady gains, luck in money but not for investments ~ enlist a good advisors if you feel you need guidance.

Tiger 1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 & 2010

Tigers and Dragons both wield a lot of power and as such if you try to exceed the Dragon you will meet with frustration! It is a year that you need to bite your tongue and keep an even steady pace for your self. Trying to over achieve will not go well. If your career is more  creative & artistic then you will do better than one that is not. Traveling to promote work is in the cards for you, as you will have to move further afield to keep your work viable . This may mean a change of jobs or branching out in new ones. Your love life has a favorable star but this will not mean you will find ‘the one’ this year if your expectations are high. If in a relationship you will have to watch for arguments getting the better of you. Money may also be a concern if you are sef employed but there is a chance to make gains here if you are innovative. If on a fixed income there is no real shifts, so keep a steady pace. Not advised to take risks with investments but to keep an eye on what you have and wait for better times. Overall it’s a challanging year but the Tiger born are always up for a challenge. Keep your wits and your temper about you, get lots of down time, stay safe and healthy and you will see a progressive year! Remember to stay focused on the creative and you will not be diappointed.

Rabbit : 1903, 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987,1999, & 2011

After basking in the glow of your year last year it will be a progressive and steady year as you harness the energy of your good relationship with the Dragon. Keep focused, steady and be ware of jealously in the work environment. Rabbits always have good friends to lend a hand and you may need to ask for help so don’t be afraid. You may also have to watch your back this year as you are still riding the ‘wave’ of 2011, so take time and look around at things that may pose a threat. In spite of any challenges you are fueled to move forward and progress steadily. This is a year to beware of your emotional health, and not be complacent in this area of your life. If you have a partner you will need to appreciate them more, if you are solo it is not a great year to find the ‘one’ but a year to expand all emotional contacts and reach out. As for health you will need to eat well, get lots of sleep and not overdue it with late nights especially if they are work oriented. It is a year to make steady progress, reap some rewards from last year and to keep an eye on your cash flow. No gambling advised, wait till there are more favorable times to speculate.

It can be a great year overall but in general the Dragon will be challenged this year as there are some inauspicious stars affecting you and lots of movement afoot. Stay focused on your goals and nurture personal relationships both at work and at home. The element you were born with will have a large affect on how you experience the year! Water Dragons will do well if they have been diligent in taking care of business over the past few years. Wood Dragons and Metal Dragons will also have an easier go of it and make progress in business.  Earth Dragons will find themselves wanting to take chances but they best be calculated and informed. Fire Dragons will have to keep under the radar lest the water of the year put out his flame and enthusiasm. It is good practice for all Dragons this year to watch emotional health. Taking a lay back approach and working with the energy of the Water Dragons methodical, steady and powerful movement will be of great benefit. Remember Dragons are pretty solitary types and don’t always see eye to eye when they encounter each other. Your best friend this year is the Rooster born!
